Welded Wedge Wire Screens

Welded wedge wire screens (also known as 'V' shaped wire or johnson screens) are manufactured using a triangular shaped profile wire which are resistance welded into support rods. Manufactured either in flat form or spirally wound cylinders before forming into flat sheets. This creating a strong versatile filter media in a variety of wires, sizes and slot openings with non clogging characteristics. These are some of the wedge wires many advantages for a diverse range of applications which covers but not limited to dewatering, filtering, screening, separation, drying.

Some advantages include:

  • High mechanical strength
  • Long Life
  • Precision slot sizes
  • High open area
  • Non clogging characteristics
  • Easy for back washing

Construction

  • Aperture   -  The gap or slot opening between the profile wires.
  • Length       -  Describes the length of profile wire and direction of apertures / slots.
  • Width          -  Also known as the support / cross rod direction.
  • Pitch           -  Confirms the distance between the support / cross rods.

Materials of construction -  304, 316L, 430, Duplex stainless steel. Others on request.

Looped Wedge Wire

Looped wedge wire screens is an alternative filter media which is manufactured without the need of welding wires to support rods. This type of wedge wire works similar to the welded alternative but has some basic advantages in the use of vibrating screens due to its flexibility.

More details can be found under Looped wedge wire in the Products section.

Radial Slot (Standard Design)

For filtration from outside to inside of the cylinder (FOTI).

Filter Out to In (FOTI)

The profiles are welded with the widest profile dimension outermost to the support rods.

Cylinder Filtration (FOTI)

The outside having the flat smooth side of the profile wire to the working surface. Slots running radially around the cylinder

Radial Slot | Optima International
Radial slot (Reverse Wire)

For filtration from inside to outside of the cylinder (FITO). The wire is welded radially with the inner surface being interupted by the position of the internal support rods.

Filter In to Out | Optima International
Filter In to Out (FITO)

The triangular profile wire is reversed so that the widest part of the profile wire is welded to the internal support rods allowing fo the in to out filtration.

Cylinder Filtration | Optima International
Cylinder Filtration (FITO)

The outside section of the cylinder having the pointed part of the triangular profile wire with the flat working surface on the inside.

Axial Slot | Optima International
Axial Slot

Filtration from inside to out (FITO). Profile wires and slot running parallel to the length.

Filter in to out (FITO) | Optima International
Filter In to Out (FITO)

The flat working surface of the trisngular wedge wire profile is on the inside of the cylinder.

SB Standard Welded Wedge Wire Profiles
Even, tapered sides with a widening slot offers little resistance to passing materials, causing little danger of pegging by marginal particles and allowing easy passage of liquids through the screen. The SB profile has numerous applications and is available in a range of stainless steel qualities.

SBB Standard Welded Wedge wire Profiles
Even, tapered sides angled at 4Ëš in the upper part reduce the rate of slot widening. A high proportion of marginal or unsuitably shaped particles may cause some pegging and blocking. The profile is recommended for use when sieve life is of prime importance and where the slow taper effect causes no problems. The SBB profile is available in a range of stainless steel qualities.

HS Standard Welded Wedge Wire Profiles
The almost parallel sides of the wear heads mean that this profile can be used when there are no marginal particles which may cause blocking. The slot width is maintained even when there is wear of the sieve surface. Only when the wear head has worn away is there any slot widening. The HS range is available in manganese steel only.
